Today I want to share about a ministry in Chula Vista, CA that my good friend and brother in Christ, Patrick Smith, is a part of. In Nov of last year I was blessed by the chance to see just where “the jungle” lives. Although I was not able to be a part of the direct ministry and worship time there, I was so very blessed by being with brother Patrick and learning more about what goes on there.
Upper Room Community Church Mission Statement Our mission is to live and preach the Gospel through action and words in accordance with the Lord’s command in Matthew 25:36 & Matthew 28:19.
One of the primary ways the Upper Room Community Church lives out this mission as a congregation is through our homeless outreach in The Jungle located in National City.
We serve the homeless community with hot meals on Monday nights followed by a Bible Study and prayer. On the first Saturday of each month, we provide sack lunches and prayer, in addition, on the third Saturday of each month we distribute groceries to individual camps.
Every year, we distribute the following items to the homeless:
+ Blankets and Coats
+ School Clothes at the beginning of the year for kids
+ Hygiene Kits
+ Annual Christmas Dinner Party
+ Requested camp needs on an individual basis as approved by our leadership
In 2014 we plan to expand the ways in which we serve those in The Jungle.
