~ for the edification of the bride of Christ and centering on Him in these last days ~
Welcome:
Welcome to the online Hebrews Bible study. We welcome anyone who wishes to engage with us during these thirteen days and even go through and/or post after the study has ended. Want to learn more about this study, be sure to check out the Hebrews Bible Study Page here for more info.
Guest Commentary:
Guest commentaries for today are from brother Caleb Gordon and sister Sonya Schweighardt.
We should never elevate one member of the body of Christ higher than another, as is clear in Scripture. Today I do want to say how thankful that I am for everyone’s participation in this study. Although we do have one more day to go, please know that I am honored to know everyone of you. Today many of you will be meeting this brother and sister for the first time (as you will meet a new brother tomorrow as well). I am thankful for their time and energy in this project. I would encourage you to check out their links and contacts below.
Sorry for the layout today. I cannot seem to get this page laid out right yet. Will work on it.
Blessings today all! – Jeremy
We are in a race!
Hebrews 12:1,2
by sister Sonya Schweighardt – North Carolina, USA
Life is filled with terrifying moments, and we cannot stop the onslaught of fear any more then we can hold back the wind. But we can always choose our response. The very winds that cause the eagle to soar later in life terrified it when it was an eaglet. Allow fear to drive you toward God.
Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day. For momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison, while we look not at the things which are seen but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal. 2 Corinthians 4:16-18
“…fixing our eyes on Jesus…” (vs 2) Our eyes should be set on Jesus. He is our strength to push through the race. Our endurance does not come from ourselves, but from God alone. So often in this world as believers we choose to try to find our strength in worldly things or people first, and then as a second thought, often when all else fails, we then turn to Jesus. That only causes us to fall back in the race. It is an obstacle that prevents relationship growth. Not only is Christ our strength as we fix our eyes on Him, but He is also “the author and perfecter of faith.”He is writing our story through the race that has been set before us. I love that the Word tells us that God is the Potter and we are the clay. Clay is moldable and pliable as long as it remains in the Potter’s hands. The potter’s hand shapes the clay. That is what God is doing with us as He is authoring our faith story.
“who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” (vs 2) Jesus knew what was to come from the time here on this earth. But inside of Him, He was able to endure because of the joy that was to come after the hardship. He is our model. We are to model after Jesus in how He endured trials and hardships…then ultimately the sacrifice of His life for us. In our society we are spoiled with our time on this earth. So often our root systems can be shallow and when the first storm of life approaches, we fall completely over. We too easily and quickly forget the example that Jesus Christ set before us. We can endure the difficult times if our perspective is in the right place. It is through those hard times that our faith is shaped and our roots become deeper in our relationship. We must trust Jesus and keep our eyes fixed on Him so that we can push through the challenging times and grow in Christ! I push through for I know the joy that will be waiting for me at the end of the race here on this earth! It is a race that causes me to push through for as Nehemiah said, “Do not be grieved, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” (Nehemiah 8:10b)
