“You follow Me!”
(John 21:22 ESV)
All you who are weary and heavy laden;[1] you who are poor in spirit;[2] you who hunger for righteousness;[3] you who mourn;[4] you who are persecuted for righteousness sake;[5] – “You follow Me!”
You who do not understand the injustices of this world; you who are looking to the governments, the news, and social media; you who are trusting in your own works, your own beliefs, your own reasonings; you who are angry about much; you who take advantage of the weak; you who despise people groups; you who indulge in the desires of the flesh; you who think your life is in your hand; you who are down and depressed – “You follow Me!”
You may study, train and work; you may have the titles of men; you may be deep in theology and of a high intellect; you may profess to be a Christian – “You follow Me!”
All the world may fall apart; wars, murder and plight may spread; all hell may break out – “You follow Me!”
Place your focus this day, with diligence, resolve, and an unashamed desire, firmly fixed upon the Author and Perfecter of the faith. For what need is it to worry about that which is God’s economy? Rather, if we must worry in some way, let that way be in consideration of our true eternal end and that we would not be told, “Be away from Me, I never knew you.”[6]
“Thus says the Lord: “Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his strength, whose heart turns away from the Lord.”
Jeremiah 17:5
