Is there such a thing as a “pure religion?” Oh Yes!

“If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person’s religion is worthless. Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit the orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.” James 1:26, 27

Any wonder why so many hate true religion? It causes us to have to, 1. visit and care for those who are the most over run in the world, and, 2. have to actually abstain and repent of being just like the world. Keep in mind that this is in context with James 1:19-25 and 2:13 (2:1-13 too). Next time we say we “hate religion” we better be very careful to remember that because the great majority has slandered and rapped the term religion does not mean we through it out and run in a complete opposite direction.
