Last Saturday at our prayer meeting, we opened with Psalm 89:27-37. God’s faithfulness to David and Israel is astounding. Even more so, God is faithful to His Son and those who would take up their cross and follow after Him. It is my hope and prayer that you find incredible joy and peace and praise as you walk through the trials of life.
Psalm 89:27-37English Standard Version (ESV)
27 And I will make him the firstborn,
the highest of the kings of the earth.
28 My steadfast love I will keep for him forever,
and my covenant will stand firm[a] for him.
29 I will establish his offspring forever
and his throne as the days of the heavens.
30 If his children forsake my law
and do not walk according to my rules,[b]
31 if they violate my statutes
and do not keep my commandments,
32 then I will punish their transgression with the rod
and their iniquity with stripes,
33 but I will not remove from him my steadfast love
or be false to my faithfulness.
34 I will not violate my covenant
or alter the word that went forth from my lips.
35 Once for all I have sworn by my holiness;
I will not lie to David.
36 His offspring shall endure forever,
his throne as long as the sun before me.
37 Like the moon it shall be established forever,
a faithful witness in the skies.” Selah
Thank you to brother Mack Tomlinson for sharing this quote below. In light of the verses above, and in regards to Hebrews 12:3-11, read the quote from Lee Dodd.
“When God afflicts His children in correction, He has specific aims. His purpose in the correction is to purge His children of their sin and bring them to a state of greater happiness and holiness of life. It is for their good! To the child of God, every affliction is a correction. God never sends random or unnecessary correction. So, every affliction that comes to the believer is working a particular good in his life, all according to the Father’s purposes.
Now, when God afflicts the sinner, He does so with a vengeance. God’s justice demands payment and cries out against the sinner. All His debts will be paid in full.
Psalm 75:8 “For in the hand of the LORD there is a cup with foaming wine, well mixed, and he pours out from it, and all the wicked of the earth shall drain it down to the dregs.”
God punishes the wicked according to His wrath, but this is never the case with His children. Christ has suffered all for the people of God. All our punishment was laid on Him and now we are wonderfully corrected and kept in the narrow way!”
Two weeks ago I passed out in my kitchen. I gashed the top of my head very deep, broke some bones in my neck and in my face. I know that my God is a merciful, a faithful and all loving Father. He does not allow anything to happen to His children that will not be turned into my good. Unfortunately, many people are unable to praise the Lord in all trials (James 1:2-4) as they do not understand Romans 8:28-29. Many do not want to “let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing” (James 1:4) as a result of not understanding the promises of God in Psalm 89 and Romans 8:28-29. Many people half-heartily, and with wrong motives, ask God for wisdom, but never receive an answer. (Read James 1:5-8 to see why.)
May the Lord use this to edify you and encourage you deeper into the mercy, glory, grace and love of Jesus Christ. (For more info on what I have been going through, check out this previous blog link here.)
Peace and blessings
