Revelation – Read and Be Blessed

prayer and lightMany professing believers in our age do not read the book of Revelation. The reasons for which are many. Some simply do not believe the written word. Others do not read it saying it is too much to handle and fearful of what it says. Others yet say that because they do not understand what they are reading, they just prefer not to read it. Let me encourage you, read it – all of it.

I know that there are a many eschatological[1] sides. Many taking a specific “side” have caused much division, fear, anger and resentment among professing believers. Much of this, I believe and dare say, has been of Satan in causing division. This unfortunately tends to lead people away from the centrality and preeminence of Christ, not to mention a poor testimony seen by the world. Regardless of all our excuses and past history, let me encourage you today to set out reading the book of Revelation. I want to give you three simple truths that will help in your reading process.

  1. Your blessed. How? “Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and keep what is written in it, for the time is near.”[2]) Read aloud the words b.) those who hear c.) who keep what is written. It does not say, “blessed are those who understand and can teach the details of such.” No. it says, “…those who…” That means you and I. So read it with expectation of God’s blessing and heed the personal application.
  2. Personal application. We just read that to be blessed we must hear and keep what is written. Here we must not worry about all the eschatological views. Apply the Word to yourself and simply believe what it says for “all the Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.”[3] Let us also remember, “that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation. For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.”[4] Therefore, let us leave the reasoning’s of men and give room for the Lord to work in us unto righteousness in Christ Jesus. This brings me to my last point.
  3. Do not add or take away from His Word. In this there is not only an admonition to not do these things, but there is also great freedom unto righteousness. “I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book, and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book.”[5] Let us not have an ungodly fear here, but let us take heed what is said. Let us not tamper by adding nor taking away; let us not take other Scriptures and interject them in where they are not to be. If we will heed God’s Word, then we have much freedom and blessing in reading and applying the Word of God unto ourselves, being transformed unto righteousness.

Every word of God proves true;
    he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.
Do not add to his words,
    lest he rebuke you and you be found a liar.

Proverbs 30:5-6

Therefore, read the book of Revelation with expectation and a pointing of our eyes unto Christ. Read in simplicity and in warning. Let us take God’s Word seriously, for this we can say, no matter what day or time the end comes and Christ returns, we are closer now than any other generation ever before! Question is, do we know Him[6] and are we being made more and more into the image of His Son, having been born again unto new life?[7]

Read on Christian soldier, read on!

Blessings all!
