“Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.”[1]

Guys-

Are most of us really doing this?  I mean, are we really?  Are we laying our lives out on the line for our wives, expecting nothing in return?  So many men do things to “HELP” their ladies, but it is with an underlying motive? – and you all know what kind of motive I’m talking about.  This is foolish!  I will be honest.  I have been guilty of this in the past.  But it’s not something real men should do, especially if you’re claiming to be a Christ follower.  How is this to be lived out?  Just the way God called it to be.  Love your wife THE WAY JESUS LOVES YOU – even when you’re in a “mood.”  God does not get short with you when you’re complaining and grumpy…what does he do?  He pursues you more, letting you know that He loves you and wants a real relationship with you.  As a result of this, what happens?  He draws you in closer.

“Husbands, love your wives, and do not be harsh with them.”[2]

Don’t be harsh with the wife that you chose to love.  Instead continue to love her, and lay yourself out for her.  I truly do believe that if men would stand up and love their wives with a sacrificial kind of love, that women would have no issue doing the “submitting” part of Ephesians 5.  They would love to be connected to a man who is leading them spiritually, loving them sacrificially, and emptying themselves on her behalf.  I know that when I make an effort to do this with my wife she is beaming with joy and contentment.

What Jeremy is doing through this book is giving us a model of what it looks like to love our wives like Christ loves us.  As you turn the pages of this book I firmly believe you’ll be challenged, encouraged, and enlightened.  Jeremy is one who uses God’s word to speak straight to your heart.  He has a desire to see men come under the direction of God’s Holy Spirit in every aspect of their marriage.  I know that you are going to enjoy this journey you are about to travel while reading through this book.  Read carefully and allow the Holy Spirit to lead you.
