“See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Beloved [context given to the professing Christian], we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is. And everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure.” 1 John 3:1-3
Amazing, what amazing love God has bestowed upon fallen man. There is without a doubt a considerable number of people who greatly pervert and twist the love of God into licentiousness and self-license to continue enjoying their sin, but there are those to, who genuinely have come to receive the Lord, and are greatly struggling with accepting that God could possibly love them.
Well, it is true, God “sent His Son,” as our propitiation, for a great grace and miraculous mercy, has been both given and offered on our behalf. It is because God is indeed love! He “first loved us” so that we could experience His saving work, trust in His saving grace, be made right with Him, in order that we may come to know Him, glory in Him, cherish Him above all else, and then set out to “love others greater than ourselves.”
If you have been struggling to really understand and know that God indeed is love and therefore loves you, He has provided a way, the only way, by which you can draw near to Him, by entering in, through, and continuing to abide, in Jesus Christ. “For there is no other way, but to trust and obey.” Trust that what God has declared about Himself is indeed true – “God is love.” Reading the book of 1 John is both beneficial, a dual edged sword you might say, in revealing His great love and testing against false profession of faith.
If your struggle is in knowing, trusting and relying upon the love of God, let this be ever before you, “Let God be God!”
