We at About-Face Missions are excited to announce we have launched the beginnings of our all new primary school in Bungoma, Kenya called, Neema Christian Academy (NCA). In Swahili ‘neema’ means grace.
It is hard to believe that only a little over two years ago Jeff and Stephanie Bys, along with seven of their children, sold everything and headed for a new life and servant-hood in Kenya. In this little time we have seen the Lord work in completely amazing and unexplained ways. We have seen the birth of Mercy Children’s Home (MCH), which has grown to over 90 children and 20 plus local employees. We have also helped rebuild local homes, worked in the community, started pastoral discipleship, continue to face dangers, and planted churches. And if this were not enough, we have met so many new people though social media, people who have seen the eternal need and have come to help answer the call.
The need for such a school is huge. But why you ask? Well simple. Although public schools in Kenya are supposed to be free, they most often are not in part due to a lack of resources for such a large impoverished population. This means that the poor are unable to attend. Bungoma is one of the poorest areas in the world and considering the great lack of biblical truth and a rampant godlessness of a great majority of churches in Kenya, the need becomes ever so obvious. So this is why we have stepped up to the plate.
We have started to build a new fence for the newly purchased land just outside of MCH’s main facility where NCA will be built. Construction of a school will begin soon. We have started to interview and hire qualified Kenyan teachers, order the curriculum and all the supplies needed. But as you can imagine, this paves the way for even greater serving opportunities.
