There are many times past, should I have my way, I would love to go back and see, for instance: To go back and speak with Enoch, watch Moses part the sea, watch David whip a giant, be there when Elijah prayed, spend all my time with Jesus in prayer, see Saul converted and the early church born.
However, in more recent days and later times of church history, there is a time I would love to go back and be in fellowship. Maybe it’s because it was the early birth of our nation and the Spirit of God was causing a great awakening. Oh how I would love to be in a room with Whitfield, Edwards, Tennent and Brainerd. To be with them in their mist and just listen and glean, to be a part of that fellowship and to pray with such ones. And although I would love to go back and be a part of these times, and even more unmentioned, I am always reminded that we can have the same here and now, but it will cost us much of our entertainment time and the simple filling in of time.
Oh that we would go get away and be with the King of kings – yes, even now, we might be in the same spirit of prayer, fellowship and worship. Oh that we would substitute all the lessers for the Greatest of all joys and enjoyments.
“One hour with God exceeds all the pleasures and delights of this lower world.” David Brainerd
