“Come, Lord Jesus” by John Piper
I cannot even begin to tell you how much deep joy, resonating with my spirit, in the glory of God, elevation of Christ, and the peace of the Holy Spirit I have in reading this new book by Dr. John Piper. In the providential economy and timing of God, this ‘means’ thus far has been a working grace. Too much to say, too deep for words, not boasting on the book, or on J. Piper, but boasting on my dear precious Jesus, who by His Spirit, uses this ‘means’ to speak volumes for the correction, realignment, and edification (along with great praise and confirmation) into my life.
“…our Spirit-awakened love for the second coming is not a Christ-neglecting fascination with an event. It is a Christ-enthralled longing for his presence and glory.” (pg.12)
“God opens the spiritually blind eyes of natural people to see the greatness, the glory, and the worth of Christ’s second coming (pgs. 24, 25)…So I am saying that authentic love for Christ’s coming is awakened and intensified by the spiritual sight of Christ’s greatness and glory and worth in his coming. There is a seeing that creates the savoring. There is a spiritual light that creates the sweetness of the longing.” (pg. 25)
“We already pointed out that this word ‘meeting’ [ἀπάντησιν] is used only three times in the New Testament (Matt. 25:6; Acts 28:15; 1 Thess. 4:17) and always refers to a meeting in which a group goes out and accompanies someone back in.” (pg. 225; See chapter 15)
There is just TOO MUCH to even begin to quote… but oh how it resonates deeply with me, in this time of my life, and in the prayers, petitions, and tears, the deep longings of the Spirit of God.
“The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. And if we are children, then we are heirs: heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ – in indeed we suffer with Him, so that we may also be glorified with Him…In the same way, the Spirit also helps us in our weakness. For we do not know how we ought to pray, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.” Rom. 8:16, 17, 26
